How to Print a Photo With a File Name Caption

Setting aside time to give each photo in your album a descriptive file name can be worthwhile if you ever need to find these photos again. It can also eliminate the need to manually give each photo a caption when printing, since there are various ways to print photos along with their file names. Having the file name as a caption also helps you remember which photos you already printed by using the printed copies as reference.

Using Windows

Step 1

Open the folder containing the photos. Hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard and click on every photo you want to be part of the print copy. Right-click any of the selected items and click "Print" from the context menu.

Scroll down the sidebar containing the different print layouts and click "Contact Sheet (35)." Change the "Printer," "Paper Size" and other options if necessary.

Click the "Print" button to print the photos. The file name will appear below each photo.

Using Picasa

Step 1

Launch Picasa and select any pictures you want to print while holding the "Ctrl" key. Click the "Print" button on the bottom toolbar to bring up the Print section.

Click the "Border and Text Options" button. Click the "File name" option in the Additional Printing Options window and adjust any of the other options there if you wish to change the font, text color, font size and text placement. Click the "OK" button to update the preview.

Step 3

Change any other options on the Print window such as the layout and printer setup. Click the "Print" button to print your photos with the applied settings.

Using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Step 1

Launch Lightroom and open a collection or folder of pictures from the left sidebar. Hold the "Ctrl" key and click on any photos you want to print.

Step 2

Select the "Print" tab on the upper right of the Lightroom window to load the Print Module. Check the "Photo info" box on the right sidebar. If the option next to this check box isn't set to "Filename," click on it and change it so it is.

Step 3

Change any other print options on the right sidebar if desired and click "Print" to print the selected photos with the file names.
