SIM cards, or Subscriber Identity Modules, are small removable cards inserted into cellular phones by certain providers. These cards contain information (i.e., telephone numbers) that the user decides to store on the card instead of the phone memory, such as pictures, music, messages and contact lists. When SIM cards are used by cellular companies (i.e., AT&T, T-Mobile and CellularOne) users can switch cards to different phones without going through the cellular provider and thereby avoiding activation fees.
